Payroll Coordinator (Temporary)

Pay Rate: $24/hour

Estimated Duration Approx. 3 Months

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm

Location: Onsite | Los Angeles, CA 90021

Our client, a leading retail brand, is seeking a Payroll Coordinator to support payroll operations for approximately 1,500 employees. The ideal candidate will have foundational payroll knowledge, strong organizational skills, accuracy with high-volume data entry, the ability to troubleshoot payroll discrepancies, and strong communication skills when partnering internal departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Process payroll for approximately 1,500 retail employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance
• Review and enter employee hours into the Time and Labor system; verify and resolve discrepancies
• Maintain payroll worklist including new hires, terminations, salary adjustments, tax updates, and direct deposits
• Research and resolve paycheck discrepancies, retro pay, garnishments, severances, and other payroll-related issues
• Communicate tactfully with store management regarding payroll questions via phone and email
• Process stop payments, voids, and rejected direct deposits
• Enter payroll data into ADP Workforce Now and verify accuracy before transmission
• Reconcile payroll outputs against entries and maintain balancing spreadsheets
• Prepare responses to wage and employment inquiries from government agencies and assist with required state and federal forms
• Coordinate with other departments on payroll-related data requests, ensuring confidentiality and discretion

Qualifications

• 1+ years of payroll or related experience preferred (entry-level candidates with foundational payroll knowledge will be considered)
• Strong organizational and communication skills (oral and written)
• Proficiency with PC, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Knowledge of ADP Workforce Now preferred; familiarity with HRSS/PeopleSoft and Store Force Time Keeping a plus
• Ability to handle heavy data entry with accuracy
• Professional, detail-oriented, and able to problem-solve in a fast-paced environment
